Melvich to Sandside 03/02/2013 We left the cars at the car park just above Melvich Bay. We crossed the footbridge over Halladale River which then took us past Bighouse. As we climbed the small hill of Rubha an Tuir we were blasted by a wild shower of rain, sleet and hail. It was impossible to walk in, so we stood like a herd of coos with our backs to the storm! It passed by quickly and we continued the walk. Another squall hit us several minutes later but this time it helped to push us to the top of the hill. In the strong westerly wind a huge sea was running which broke spectacularly on the high cliffs of that coast. We were very fortunate with the rest of the walk as the rain and snow showers past by either behind or in front of us. At the end of the walk the sun even came out.
