Richard and his brother John were both lodging at 84 Damaide Street, Lancaster as apprentice joiners, house owned by Joseph Parker who was also a joiner and wife Ellen.
1881 Census.
Now staying at 2 Ampton Street, St Pancras, London with the family of John Timothy Jackson (Could be a relation) as a joiner.

Wedding in Knaresborough of Richard to Emma Louisa (Phillips). her father was Joseph Phillips and he was a Lawyers Clerk. Witness was George Laverty and Elizabeth Ann Nelson (his sister).
1891 Census.
Living at the Golden Anchor, High Street, Knaresborough, Richard (40) was an Innkeeper and Joiner, married to Emma Louisa (31), they now had four children.
The Golden Anchor was situated on the High Street, closing in 1932. This pub has now been demolished, with the site now part of an ornamental garden at the junction of High Street and Park Row.

Richard Nelson died in 1898 in Knaresborough, age 46.

1901 Census.
Emma Louisa is now a widow and living at 4, Elmwood Street, Harrogate, her occupation is a Water Attendant. Since the 1891 Census Richard and Emma Louisa had two more children.

Living with her at the house was her Mother also a Widow aged 60, Hannah who was a nurse.
1911 Census.
Emma Louisa (51) and her daughter (21) were servants working and lodging at the Queen Hotel in Harrogate, both as housemaids.
could this be them, Mary Eleanor (Nellie), Emma Louisa and unknown lady, certainly outside a nice place.
1917
The War office were writing to Emma Louise now aged 57 about her sons in the Great War, her address is now 13 Ramsay Street, Otley, Yorkshire.
1936
Emma Louisa died in 1936 in Wharfdale, Yorkshire. Her burial was on the 14th July 1936 in Otley, Yorkshire
