At an unknown date a purpose-built school was situated to the south of the chapel, on a site now part of the graveyard.
In 1829 the schoolmaster, Richard Nelson, was living at ‘Chapel’.
The accommodation was probably only suitable for a single man, as in 1841 Nelson, still the teacher, lived with his wife at Green, and in 1851 at Ratten Row

Ann is now a widow, she is living at the Post Office, in the High Green at Middleton, she is 63 and is the Postmistress
1871 Census
Aged 74 still living in Middleton.
Ann died in 1880 aged 84
