William Jamieson (Penrith) beat James Nelson (Tunstall). 8s for losing.
The attendance was both large and respectable, and excellent order was kept. The proprietor had secured a staff of the County constabulary in case any roughs might of arrived from Liverpool.
(Jamieson was considered the best wrestler in the game in 1868 before being beaten by George Steadman, who he was beaten in the final of this competition on this day).

Sarah's family
Sarah Ann Emery married James Nelson on November 20th 1870 at Toxteth, Liverpool, here are some of her family.
Sarahs father was Thomas Emery who was born in Liverpool ( B. 1821) and was a Labourer, Sarahs mother was also called Sarah (B. 1822 in Northwich, Cheshire). Sarah was born at Marlow salt yard in Toxteth, the Family later moving to 71 Gregson Street also in Toxteth. Sarah Ann was the oldest child (B. 1849), her other brothers and sisters were: Ann Ellen (B. 1851), Robert (B 1852), Mary (B 1856), Charles (B 1858) and Richard (B 1859).
Sarah's Death
Sarah Ann Nelson, neé Emery, died at 126 Smithdown Road, Liverpool, (Sefton General Hospital) on 8th July 1930.
From her death certificate, she had lived at 20 Sandstone Road, widow of James Nelson, cow keeper.
Her cause of death, "senile dementia".
The informant was son John Nelson of 2 Shrewsbury Street, Warrington
