Ruth Ashton writes,- I have come across some knowledge regarding my Great Grandfather James Nelson. Apparently he was considered a bad tempered and aggressive man, some members of the family actually feared him. I wonder if you know anything about what type of person John Nelson (His brother) was. My Father (Brian), John's grandson remembers his Grandfather John as a very nice and pleasant person who when they visited in Warrington was always very welcoming. His brothers and sisters he tells me used to cycle from Northwich to Warrington, what a journey for young children.

James Nelson and his wife Harriet were living separately at the time of the 1911 census. James is with his mother Sarah Nelson at 10 Sandstone Road, with four of his children. Two others are living elsewhere, one with maternal Grandparents Swinnerton and the other lives next door with an Uncle Stackhouse. James has only recorded 5 of 5 living children. He has not recognised the 6th child probably Stanley. there is suggestion that Harriet is under the name Louisa Nelson working as a domestic cook for the Slater family at Haymens Green , West Derby. Questions arise at the obvious name difference but also at the difference in number of years married and children. This Louisa states that she has been married for 12 years and has 6 living children and I deceased. The 12 years could obviously be a miscalculation but I have never come across the suggestion of a 7th child before 1911 for Harriet Louisa. Stanley the eldest was born under Swinnerton on the 13th April 1900, 7 months before his parents were married. There is no other Swinnerton child born in West Derby in 1900 so Stanley was not a twin. Was there another child....or just not the right Louisa...
