Spanglefish Gold Status Expired 10/06/2010.
They came, they saw, and they conquered as they stepped up their offensive in the ninth to snatch victory off the jaw of defeat. Indeed, the Phillies were for real in this game.

Philadelphia Phillies   8   New York Mets   6

Shea Stadium fans witnessed an enthralling match last night which their team lost in the most weirdest circumstances since from the offset the Mets were in full control of this game as Santana was showing the sort of form that makes one believe that he is well capable of fulfilling all conceivable expectations of which his fans are hungry for. Certainly, Santana was very niggardly to the Phillies on the mound last night for he only allowed them two runs in eight innings; however, without demur as he had no option, he accepted Manuel's ill- judged decision to leave him in the dugout for the last inning. It proved to be a fatal move since the Phillies came out for the ninth with their backs up and they were most definite spoiling for a fight. It was just like a call to arms and their audacity really paid off as they put the game to bed in that inning.  In came Sanchez for Santana and he left soon after without registering an out as he was hit at will by the daring Phillies. Joe Smith came next and he suffered almost the same fate as Sanchez. In came Feliciano, even though he did a good job his intervention was not good enough to reprieve his team from their fate as the Phillies went ahead in the ninth and did not relinquish their advantage at the close. Albeit Santana was sorely disappointed for not being allowed to complete the job he so admirably was doing, he showed that he was still very much among the best throwers in Major League Baseball to date.    Final score Phillies   8    Mets    6
