Randolph's dismissal was unexpected after winning in the city of Angels but it was impending as the final verdict on his reign had been delivered in his absence at Shea Stadium in New York the previous night!

Carlos Beltran first two hits went over the fence as the Mets defeated The LAA at Angel Stadium 9 - 6. However, this victory was not enough to save the manager's job. So it is adios to Willie Randolph from the Mets and the fans and it is welcome to interim manager, Jerry Manuel. Final verdict : The king is dead. Long live the king. But nothing is guaranteed in Major League Baseball these days, least of all, a manager's job.
