Be inspired by our service return and try tennis for free!

Tennis has one the most long-lasting past of any sport being played on earth since a prehistoric form of tennis was played in Greece 500 BC. A new version of the game was played in France during the Middle Ages, called Jeu de Paume, where two players hit a ball to each other with the palm of their hand, and it was consequently named Real or Royal tennis. This game became very popular with European noblemen of the 16th century, and Henry VIII is counted among those who embraced it with both hands; so much so that he then commissioned the building of a Royal tennis court at his Hampton Court Palace.
The progression from Jeu de Paume, which was played mainly on indoor courts, to lawn tennis was not a straight forward one since there was a need to contrive a ball which would bounce on grass; so it was not until the 19th century that the game was played for the very first time on an area of mown grass.
Tennis first became a popular game in the United Kingdom in 1870 and South Norwood Park-Lake site in SE19 hosted a number of tournaments long before the All England Tennis & Croquet Club in Wimbledon held its first championships in 1877.
Tennis can be played on different surfaces, i.e. Clay, grass, cement and asphalt. It is a sport that can be played by anyone, regardless of his/her ability, age or creed; what’s more our mission is to help you to improve and increase your enjoyment of the game of tennis! Get in touch so that we can reach you, wherever you are, and start the coaching process soon. It is tennis for free!
