Cuba's misery continues as it is left feeling disappointed and forlorn once more in the commercial wilderness!
17 September 2009
President Barack Obama shelves plans to lift commercial embargo on Cuba!
It is the same old Washington politics as President Obama takes the easy way out and closes his ears to the commercial plight which the sun kissed island of Cuba has been going through for more than fifty years. It would have meant so much to the people of Cuba if this burden, which is the commercial embargo that the United States of America imposed to their government many moons ago, had been lifted. It is not like me to pretend but I genuinely thought that Mr. Obama was the man who would put an end to Cuba's lack of economical involvement with the U.S.A. and now, hiding the tears that don't show, I am not so sure that it would ever happen even though deep in my heart I still hope it would. Indeed, I am sad, very sad, for I think an opportunity has been missed to soothing the differences which have existed between the two countries for more than half a century. Certainly, my head is filled with things to say for I am very disappointed about President Obama's turn since in my ears and in my eyes he was the Messiah and in the pouring rain I cannot help thinking that he would rather close his eyes to little Cuba than incur the wrath of right wing fascists in the world. How sad that thought would be if it were to be accurate even more so if my expectations of him would not rise above the level of mediocrity. Having said that I wish him the best of luck in his quest for justice, equality and peace in this world of ours which is clearly in need of a shoulder to cry since its problems are many.
