A bespoke rendition on the mound by Jon Niese for the Mets put an end to a three-game losing streak last night at Minute Maid Park!
26 July 2009
New York Mets   10   Houston Astros   3

Mets' opening hurler, Jon Niese, produced a vintage performance in front of 43000 plus dense crowd at Minute Maid Park - the home of the Houston Astros - as he conceded to the hosts a mere four hits for one run in seven frames while striking out three batters. Mets' right-fielder, Jeff Francoeur, and catcher, Omir Santos, supported well the cause of their team and Niese's excellent work on the mound with the force of a tropical storm as the former yielded a three-run homer in the fifth inning off Astros' reliever, Tim Byrdak, and the latter hit a sole homer in the sixth off hosts' reliever, Chad Paronto, to seal the game for the visitors. Astros' right-fielder, Hunter Pence, added a run to the hosts' score with a sole homer in the ninth inning off Mets' fire-fighter, Francisco Rodriguez, but his effort was to no avail as the game went to the Mets anyway. Astros' opening pitcher, Russ Ortiz took the loss. Final score:  Mets 10 Astros 3.
