In an up-and-down season the Mets' recent good run was halted by the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia's spectacular ballpark, last night in front of 45000 plus crowd as the latter defeated the former in the first match of a three games series which has been billed as the battle of the East American Coast. Indeed, the media has entitled this series as the survival of the fittest as both team will be trying to undo each other on the field of playing as they wrestle for supremacy. Indeed, first blood went to the hosts last night as they hit almost at will Mets' opening pitcher, Livan Hernandez, who conceded seven runs and ten hits, including a Jayson Werth's gargantuan homer in the bottom of the third inning. Phils' opening hurler, Rodrigo Lopez, took the win for the host, allowing the visitors two runs and six hits while striking out four batters in six frames. Final score:  Phillies  7   Mets  2.
