Yankees opening hurler, CC Sabathia, just loves being the centre of attention and City Field last night provided the stage for his best performance on the mound - wearing the Yankees' colours - this season - as he merely conceded one run and three hits while striking out eight batters in seven frames. His dominance was such that no Mets' baserunner reached first base until the bottom of the fifth inning when Gary Sheffield dispatched a gargantuan solo homer over the left-field's fence. This late setback puts Manuel's team further behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the eastern league which are enjoying a sizeable advantage over the Mets in the hunt for final glory and it was Mets' third defeat in four meetings against the Yankees this season. Final score:   Yankees 9   Mets 1.
