Skipper's prosaic aloofness is perceptible to the media's eye but ignoring conventionalities won't help the cause of the Mets - nonetheless - thinking outside the box, perchance, it might!
24 June 2009
St. Louis Cardinals   3     New York Mets  0

Mets' skipper, Jerry Manuel, looked down in the dumps and tongue-tied last night at Citi Field after Mets' skirmish with the Cardinals ended in defeat. Indeed, the man appeared to be detached from the world in which he has chosen to exhibit his trade; however, his lack of imagination will not go down well with the fans and the owners of the team as the need to think positively and unimpeded by conventional constraints has never been more urgent than now that his stars seem to have lost their sparkle. Nevertheless, Mets' opening pitcher, Livan Hernandez, gave notice of a natural state of mind on the mound as he allowed the hosts three runs and eight hits in seven frames and, in all honesty, he was very unlucky to have lost a match in which his effort deserved a better outcome and more support from his team mates. Cardinals' hurler, Joel Pineiro, was the winner pitcher as he went the full nine innings without conceding a run while allowing two hits. Final score:   Cardinals 3   Mets 0.
