Aubrey Huff's mighty swing in the seventh inning was worth the wait for the Orioles' fans as it honed in on Mets spot at Camden Yards last night!
18 June 2009
Baltimore Orioles  6   New York Mets  4

Mets' head coach, Jerry Manuel, was ticked off on point of order by the Baltimore's fans when he described the tactics used by the Orioles as those used by a light-punchy boxer with the ability to break down opponents by relentless pressure and resistance. Indeed, he must have been watching lucha libre as Aubrey Huff's gargantuan two-run rap off Mets' relieving hurler, Pedro Feliciano, was not a blow that is synonymous with a light-punchy boxer. Nevertheless, it must be said that Mets' opening pitcher, Tim Redding was not at his best last night as he allowed the Orioles four runs and seven hits, including a two-run homer by rookie Matt Wieters while striking out two batters in five innings. In the meantime, the leaders of the National League East, Philadelphia Phillies, were beaten at home by the Toronto Blue Jays and therefore this lost by the Mets last night to the Orioles was far more significant to them than they could have imagined since it amounted to a miss opportunity to get closer to the leaders. Final score: Orioles 6   Mets 4.
