Mike Pelfrey, Mets' opening pitcher, brought the Orioles to their knees for five innings but could not get out of the sixth as Orioles right-fielder, Nick Markakis, dispatched a two-run homer off him to prompt Jerry Manuel to call the fire-fighters. He left the game having conceded two runs, five hits and three walks while striking out two batters. Relievers, Sean Green, Pedro Feliciano, Bobby Parnell and Francisco Rodriguez did a good job under the circumstances as the Orioles threatened to upset the apple-cart when they scored twice in the ninth inning but in the end the odds of the hosts orchestrating an overturn of the score were too high to be reached and the Mets came away from this match as winners.
