It is fair to say that the inter league series between Mets and Yankees adds a special significance to the city of New York, the players and fans of both teams as it is a series that they all look forward to more than any other since both set of players often give their all on the field of playing where no quarter is ever asked or given. Indeed, past encounters between these two sides have produced excellent entertainment and very recently, Friday night to be exact, the Yankees frustrated the Mets by defeating them in a match which I considered not apposite for the faint-hearted people as the final score suggested - 9 to 8 in favour of the Yankees. Nevertheless, Saturday, in the words of Sir Elton Hercules John, was all right for fighting as the Mets acquitted themselves well in the heat of the battle and forced the Yankees to capitulate on their terms. Mets' catcher, Omir Santos, was brilliant with the bat as he brought home three runs and hit a gargantuan homer off Yankees' opening hurler, Andy Pettite, in the top of the second inning. Mets' designated hitter, Gary Sheffield, also shone with the bat as he went 5 for 2, including a solo homer off A. Aceves and an RBI single. Nevertheless, it must be said that venezuelan hurler, Fernando Nieve, did a magnificent job for the Mets on the mound last night away from home as he only allowed the hosts two runs and four hits in six innings while punching out two batters. Final score: Mets  6  Yankees  2.
