Pirates unleashed a sledgehammer in the very first inning of the last game of this series to triumph over New York's toothless Mets as they nailed in war on the challengers from the beginning of the match and left them stranded at sea!

Pittsburgh Pirates   11  New York Mets   6

Mets' skipper, Jerry Manuel, sat through the whole grisly match in the dugout last night at PNC Park with a vacant expression on his face as he were an architect of disquietude. Indeed, he has every reason to be concerned since the progress of his team has not been what many expected to be at the start of the season. There is not a doubt in my mind that Jerry have always had the good of the team at heart; however, since the team is not responding to his guidance and leadership, I am inclined to think that it would be best, for all concerned, if he were to jump the boat, of his own accord, before he was made to walk the plank and be pushed.  It is all very sad, indeed, but I have a good deal of evidence on which to base my opinion for I am not sure I like the way the wind is blowing and the direction it is taking the Mets with Jerry at the helm of the boat.  Opening hurler, Mike Pelfrey, was at fault from the start of the game as he conceded nine hits and nine runs in three innings on the mound. Center fielder, Carlos Beltran, expressed himself well in his return to the line-up for the Mets last night as he yielded two hits during the match including a sole homer off Pittsburgh's opening pitcher, Ross Ohlendorf. His counterpart, Andrew McCutchen, was also a main contributor to the defeat of the Mets as he produced two hits, scored twice, drove in a run and stole one base. all in a day for the cause of the Pirates in his debut game. Final score:  Pirates 11    Mets 6.
