Someone appeared to have put the right fuel into the Mets' batting engine last night at AT & T Park as it took the direction which Johan Santana had been hoping for quite sometime. Indeed, with a little help from his team mates, Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Gary Sheffield, Santana was able to extinguish the Giants' rise which amounted to a great deal during the seven innings he spent on the mound but not enough to cause an encumbrance. Indeed, he allowed six runs and eleven hits, including a gargantuan homer at the bottom of the sixth by Giants' center fielder Aaron Rowan, while striking out seven Giants before he was replaced by Bobby Parnell who combined with J.J. Putz to close the game for the Mets. Final score:  Mets  9  Giants   6.
