When Randy Johnson threw down the gauntlet in response to Johan Santana's challenge the seas were furious at San Francisco Bay but apprehension filled all Giants' fans' mind as the two iconic left-handlers met for the first time last night! 17 May 2009 New York Mets 9 San Francisco Giants 6Someone appeared to have put the right fuel into the Mets' batting engine last night at AT & T Park as it took the direction which Johan Santana had been hoping for quite sometime. Indeed, with a little help from his team mates, Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Gary Sheffield, Santana was able to extinguish the Giants' rise which amounted to a great deal during the seven innings he spent on the mound but not enough to cause an encumbrance. Indeed, he allowed six runs and eleven hits, including a gargantuan homer at the bottom of the sixth by Giants' center fielder Aaron Rowan, while striking out seven Giants before he was replaced by Bobby Parnell who combined with J.J. Putz to close the game for the Mets. Final score: Mets 9 Giants 6.P.
