Mets are still at the top of the National League East as they left the Pirates stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean rowing on across stormy seas with little hope of reaching a port of salvation. Indeed, the Buccaneers were left in the horns of a dilemma in the top of the ninth when fortune smiled at the Mets as they scored thrice in a trice to literally put the game to bed for the New Yorkers. Maine, Beltran, Sheffield and Wright were the main contributors to the Mets' cause as they beached in a sandy cove in the Pacific Ocean, dragging along the spoils to safety while still floating steadily on the salty water. Final score:   Mets  7    Giants   4.
