The scrip seemed to have been written for Braves' opening hurler, Javier Vazquez, to perform brilliantly at Turner Field, a new state of the art ballpark in Atlanta, last night and indeed, he was doing a marvellous job until the top of the six inning when the Mets, seemingly unaware of the scrip scored four runs to spoil Vazquez's night on the mound. Indeed, David Wright and Carlos Beltran took matters into their own hands as they hit two-run homers in turn, in the sixth, to overhaul the early advantage which the Atlanta Braves had acquired at the bottom of the second inning. Far worse was to come for Vazquez in the seventh when Carlos Beltran hit his second two-run homer of the encounter to prompt Vazquez withdrawal from the game. John Maine took the win even though he fell into an early merry maddening start which threatened to become out of hands as he allowed the Braves three runs at the closing of the second inning. Final score:  Mets  6   Braves  4.
