It was a sweltering hot day when the Mets took the field in front of 40000 people at Citi Field yesterday afternoon but opening hurler, Oliver Perez, was off his pace yesterday as he conceded nine hits, including two gargantuan homers by Jesus Flores and Austin Kearns respectively, three walks and seven runs in five innings to the Nats' offensive.  In fairness the Mets' artillery was off the boil yesterday afternoon as winning hurler, King Jordan Zimmermann, had all the cards as the Mets abdicated to his certain claims. Indeed, King Zimmermann's dominance was impressive for 5 1/3 innings as he allowed the Mets one run and six hits while striking out eight batters.  Final score:  Nationals  8   Mets  1.
