A night of tempestuous emotions caused largely by frustration and a storm that wrecked the Mets' ship in St. Louis for the second time running in this series, left Jerry Manuel alone pondering the abysmal start his team has experienced this season!

St. Louis Cardinals   5  New York Mets   2

It has been said that Jerry Manuel's lips tight shut attitude last night after his team was defeated at St. Louis, for the second time in an equal number of outings in this series, was due to the need to restrain his inflammable breath from igniting when a New York reporter, airy-fairy, vented his opinion about his ability to manage a bunch of stars who are getting paid huge amount of money without shining on the field of playing.  Indeed, this unprecedented crisis which the Mets seem to be experiencing at the present time has burdened Jerry Manuel with criticism from the press about the handling of the team. Having said that I incline to think that the reporter cannot be accused of inappropriately airing what is a matter of great interest in the baseball world as the performances of the team so far have caused considerable frustration to the faithful Mets' fans. Nevertheless, the Mets need to be more assertive in this series as it has been rather one sided so far with the Cardinals taking the spoils of the two meetings. Joel Pineiro and Albert Pujols were the main men for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium last night as the former went into the nine inning - conceding two runs and seven hits before he gave way to relievers, Reyes and Franklin - and the latter led the attack with two singles and a couple of RBIs.  Final Score: Cardinals   5  Mets   2.
