Santana's heroic performance on Friday night was in vain as Marlins' victory at Shea Stadium last night broke Mets fans' hearts. Indeed, the Florida Marlins garrotted the Mets when they squeezed the last bit of air from their season as their bullpen failed once more to tight its nets in the eighth. My occasional eccentricities often help me attract media attention for my willingness to voice my strong opinions but the skipper has a great deal to bear in the outcome of the Mets' performances this season. As I see it, shouting wakes the echoes but there is nothing to shout about as far as the die-hard Mets fans are concerned and, therefore, heads must be made to roll as some players in the roster are, in my view, surplus to requirement. Certainly, the world is full of people who talk a good game but when it comes to deliver somehow all comes out wrong. The bottom line is that any fool can organise a conspiracy but one has to know a great deal about a subject and work hard at it to orchestrate a revolution. No one on the subject of fairness can nourish the thought that I can do a better job than the present Mets' skipper but it pained me to see decisions being made that were not in the best interest of the team even if they were made with that intention in mind. I do not underestimate Jerry Manuel's intelligence as it is not that easy to look back and say why did one do this? or why did one jump to that conclusion? Maybe he was acting on all the information and resources he had at the time; I don't know but I have to expect and respect that those decisions he made during the season were the best possible decisions that he could have made under the circumstances. Nevertheless, the fact that he now knows a little more, merely gives him the perspicacity that only hindsight can ever supply. However, there are some experiences one can only ever need once as there is no point in repeating them again and again as they are not going to get more enjoyable or rewarding but other ideas deserve perseverance as they may rise to a markedly different outcome under an altered set of circumstances and end up providing one with the most pleasure.
