Santana proved his worth once more for the Mets at Shea Stadium last night as he delivered an outstanding performance on the mound which put back the spark on a soft dim light left by Monday's disappointed result against the visiting team as he sealed a much needed win for the Mets. Indeed, he was very impressive last night as he gave his all for the Mets' cause for he served up another superlative dish of hurling expertise on the mound which rendered him fatigated to the point of collapse; nevertheless, his competitive disposition drove him to dig deep into his physical resources which aided him to break from the normal as he threw 125 pitches while striking out ten batters, allowing seven hits and conceding two runs in eight innings.  It could have been an unpopular decision if thing had gone wrong in the top of the ninth when the manager called on the bullpen to close the game but Feliciano and Ayala combined well to dilute the thickness of apprenhension as they allowed no further runs to the weary Cubs. However, there were more heroes besides Santana, Feliciano and Ayala for Jose Reyes became the first Mets' player to have reached 200 hits this season. David Wright had also his moment in the course of the game as he yielded a single with the bases full in the fifth inning. In the end, it was all about the importance of the team winning that game which really mattered as the Mets go on in search of a place in the playoffs. Final score:  Metss 6  Cubs  2
