The long and winding road to the Playoffs is getting slender day by day for the Mets and it might disappear all together if a remedy to its deficient bullpen is not found promptly! 22 September 2008 Atlanta Braves 7 New York Mets 6It beggars belief that Jerry Manuel has been unable to whip his bullpen into shape as it is the main reason for the Mets being in their current predicament. Indeed, I am seriously inclined to disagree with Jerry's desire to use the bullpen as often as he does when the opening hurler is having a good day on the mound. I can mention at least three instances this month when pitchers have been taken off when there has not been any reason to do so. As I see it, if a hurler is good enough to pitch seven innings and he is on top of the situation he should be allowed to go all the way, especially when the alternative offers only tears of mortification. Certainly, it was a hard day's night for the Mets last night as the Braves had them on the run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Braves cancelled out Mets' early lead and went ahead when Jeff Francoeur blasted a triple which aided the Braves to feather their nest as they manufactured four runs in that inning. The advantage was kept and the Braves had once more defeated the Mets and won the series. Having said that the Mets have every good reason on Earth to moan for they were disappointed to have lost a match which was theirs to be won as Carlos Delgado and David Wright ignited enough fire to burn the bleachers with homers and RBIs; sadly there was not enough gun power to finish off the tribe. As it stands, the defeat was a stunning blow for the die-hard Mets' fan as it struck a responsive chord in their hearts with a groan of despair as if a vivid flash of lightning had striken their space and they had been the recipient of a massive blast which had waned their strength and had led to the Heavens cry and tears come down in torrents from a dark cloudy scene. Final score: Braves 7 Mets 6P.
