New York Mets   7  Washington Nationals  2

There is still plenty of whizz and heart left in the Mets' camp to be too concerned about their appetite for a fight and that side was shown last night as Santana's dominance on the mound became a factor in the split with the Nationals at their den when he struck out eight batters and conceded one run in seven innings.  A further contribution to the win was delivered by Schneider's enterprise with the bat as he went to the bleachers twice in the course of the match. Indeed, it was a delicately balanced and enthralling game which was played with a close attention to the significance of it to the Mets as they are bidding with the Phillis for a place in the playoffs but praise must go to my compadre Johan Santana whose magnificent work on the mound produced an electrifying result for the Mets.  Final score:  Mets  7  Nationals  2
