Carlos Delgado posted an emphatic message on behalf of the Mets to their chasers last night which took wings in the form of a rather late two run blast in the eighth inning to defeat the Brewers in their industrial site!
02 September 2008
New York  Mets   4   Milwaukee Brewers   2

There is a mere month of baseball left in the Major League Baseball calendar before the season is over and the Play-off takes place; nevertheless, a go-getting start to a September enterprise has put the Mets in a positive frame of mind as their form is beginning to peak at the right time and certainly, their good form has put them in pole position to climb the podium first at the end of the regular season. Indeed, it is a delicate balance to speculate about the outcome of who might win this group but the odds are now, surely, stacked in Mets' favours to win their division.  Albeit, opening pitcher, my compatriot, Johan Santana was in fine form last night, he earned a no-decision despite punching out 10 brewers and conceding seven hits in six innings of action.  It must be said that when Johan left the scene on a tactical substitution, ordered by the sensible head of Jerry Manuel, his team was trailing behind by one run which explains the reasoning for him not having been credited with the win since the Mets' artillery did not come to a full display and action until the seventh and eighth inning,  respectively, when they scored their runs. It was in the top of the eighth when Mets' resurrection began to be felt as Carlos Delgado showed his irresistible force as he abruptly crushed Eric Gagne's slider and sent it to the furthest part of the bleachers, in the right field direction, which added two more runs to the Mets' score.  It is all about confidence and in my view there was a burst of such last night when the bullpen was called upon to close the game and indeed, its fine intervention prompted Jerry Manuel to hail his bullpen profoundly which until then had been a beleaguered one; certainly, it deserved praise for the way it shrugged off the critics as it stepped up to its critics' urge to be better than they had been in times gone by. Nelson Figueroa was credited with the win; however, it was a team effort that helped the Mets in the end to see the Brewers off, at least for the time being. Final score:  Mets  4  Brewers  2
