Relief replaced frustration as Mets requited the Phillies in kind for past deed!
28 August 2008

New York Mets  6  Philadelphia Phillies  3

A cloudy Sky above Citizens Bank Park witnessed the Mets returning the Phillies the same treatment they dished the New Yorkers the previous night as the later defeated the former in an enthralling match at the Phillies' patch last night. Opening pitcher, Johan Santana did not have the best of start as Ryan Howard hit a two-run home run off him in the first inning and in the second inning he allowed Jayson Werth to connect with one of his 95 miles per hour pitch which produced a solo homer for the slugger. He gave way to Brian Stokes in the seventh with the game still in the balance. Feliciano, Smith and Ayala combined to close the game which the Mets literally put to bed in the eighth inning as its offensive was too much for the Phillies' bullpen to handle.  Carlos Delgado weighed maturity and power as he yielded the Mets' first three scores with an RBI in the top of the first inning and solo homers one in the sixth and the other in the eighth inning respectively.  Final score:  Mets  6  Phillies  3
