Home brew determination was the tactics employed by the Phillies to defend their patch against the Mets' offensive at Citizens Bank Park last night as their fans egged them to go for the win!
27 August 2008
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES  8  NEW YORK METS   7

Mets' bullpen wilted under the weight of expectation on it last night as it once more was unable to close a game that it seemed destined to end in tears for the Phillies. Indeed, Mets' offensive had given opening pitcher, Pedro Martinez, seven runs head start in the first four inning but, soon after, the advantage had been shorten to two as he allowed five runs before he was taken off the mound in the fifth and replaced by Brian Stokes. Albeit, Martinez fought his demons with serious determination during his staying on the mound last night most baseball connoisseurs reckon that he is no longer the force that he once was. A fanfare heralding the approach of better things for the Met was in displayed at shea Stadium the night before they flew to Philadelphia and nothing else befitted that sending off; however, things have not gone according to plan and the Mets found themselves today, wednesday morning, behind the Phillies and under a miserable sky filled with thoughts of what it might have been and all the rest while the sun reluctantly does not wish to take his cap off. There was a relief in the Phillies' camp as they literally got away with murder as they took the win in the thirteen inning. It goes to show that baseball is a very unpredictable game and it is not finish until the last out is caught.  Final score:  Phillies  8   Mets  7
