A fine Mets' triumph produced a split of a four-game series with the Astros last night enkindling the New Yorkers unto better things!
26 August 2008
New York Mets  9  Houston Astros  1

Confidence often comes upon one like a new suit that doesn't fit one's body properly until one has got used to wearing it, and maybe the lack of credence was the main reason for Jerry Manuel's wondering whether to remain in silence or speak out his praises of his team. I really don't know; nevertheless, without any stirring from me the fans gave opening pitcher, Mike Pelfrey, a rapturous welcome to the mound at Shea Stadium last night after a nearly a week of absence and in return he gave a very fine performance for the benefit of all those watching the game. Indeed, he produced not less than what it was expected of him as he allowed merely six hits, one walk and one run, which came in the last inning of the match. One batter followed another as every frame pitched by Pelfrey became a disturbing line of a horrid tale for the Astros' offensive. It has to be said that Perfrey was in his element last night and there was nothing the visitors could do to suppress his irrepressible mood and dominance in last night game. The Mets' batting machinery had also a good night as Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes provided the main gunnery as the former produced a couple of three-run home runs and the latter a double and a one-run triple during the course of the match.  Final score:  Mets  9   Astros  1
