Pirates were made to walk a slippery plank as the Mets' seaworthy ship struck against the buccaneers' corsair at sea as they wandered the innings in search of outs and runs as plunder for their cause!

New York Mets  2  Pittsburgh Pirates

Pride is a spiritual entity that is not seen and yet from the outside it is mighty difficult to pretend that an injustice has not been committed; I am taking about the bad press that Aaron Heilman "The Man" received early this week for not being able to close a game in a dignifying and imposing manner. Indeed, the New York Press hurled all the thunderbolts that a newspaper can muster in the direction of Heilman for his performance that night but he is a good pro and he accepted that newspapers' people needed to make a living even though he was not entirely amused by the way in which his ability to perform in tricky situations was questioned. Nevertheless, it belied to be not so since his competitive spirit and his flagstaff was always flying and it showed when the precious villain became an instant hero as he rose to the occasion on the mound in the ninth inning last night, and did what he was unable to do last monday at Shea Stadium. What of that? He made sure that the win went to the Mets and Mike Pelfrey who pitched seven innings allowing the buccaneers no runs in his time on the mound.  There was a consolation run scored by the hosts in the eighth inning when Jack Wilson hit a solo home run off Sanchez fast delivery which amounted to raising the temperature of the game but in the end Pedro Feliciano who completed the eighth inning and Aaron Heilman wrapped up the game in the ninth with a magnificent display of good control on the mound and a wonderful piece of defensive intervention in first base. Final score: Mets  2  Pirates  1
