David Wright proved his worth again for the Mets as he went over the fence at Shea Stadium last night to halt the clergymen taking the whole of the collection!

New York Mets  5    San Diego Padres  3

David Wright was Met's shining light at Shea Stadium last night as he dispatched a two-run apoplectic whack over the left-field fence with two outs registered on the board to defeat the Padres and aid the cause of the Mets, as they won the series, in a captivating match. For much of the match, Santana was the man in control on the mound as he only allowed the Padres one run in seven innings courtesy of Chase Headley in the second inning. For all that, Santana's effort was not rewarded since the bullpen failed once again to protect the lead that the Mets had at the time of his departure from the game in the eighth inning. A bemused New York Mets crowd at Shead Stadium saw the San Diego Padres equalised the match in the top of the ninth which cranked up pressure on the Mets' expectations as they desperately needed a win to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles who at the present time are heading the National League East.  Their prayers were answered in the bottom of the ninth inning when David Wright produced a gargantuan biff, which went over the left part of the yard with a runner on base, and which effectively ended the match.  Final Score: Mets  5   Padres  3.
