A celestial stroke was granted to Mark Loretta when he smashed a gram slam in the eight inning with the bases loaded to foil the Mets' pretensions in a hot night in Houston!
02 August 2008
Houston Astros  7    New York Mets   3

A late lark singing, a ghost force, an unnatural happening and a curious incident are often tales of the nights in Texas but a celestial interventions is not an everyday occurrence in this part of the States.  However, the scope for freedom of action and speech has always been a characteristic of this vast land. Fitfully enough in the eighth inning, shinning in the night against the deep dark sky of Houston, Mark Loretta smashed a monster homer off Aaron Heilman's ("The Man") sinker over the fence with the bases loaded breaking a tied-game. Pedro Martinez had the most healthy feeling night as he completed five innings conceding thee runs of which all were homers.  Nevertheless, once the magic of Martinez had left the game the Astros seemed to come good as they capitalised on Pedro's departure and put the game to bed in the eighth. Final score:  Astros  7   Mets  3
