Carlos Delgado smashed a two-run double in the eighth inning, which broke a tied game, to help his team to a meteoric rise to the top of the National League East last night at Shea Stadium. The feast of reason makes the Mets favourites now to win their division as they feathered their own nest with two more wins out of three games against their nearest rival the Philadelphia Eagles but I am inclined to believed that the Mets will not rest on their laurels since there is a lot of baseball still to be played before the season is over. Oliver Perez had an excellent night on the mound as he struck out 12 batters in 8 innings. Albeit he got into difficulty in the eighth inning as he loaded the bases with two outs registered Heilman " The man" managed to calm down the stormy sea to close the inning without conceding a run. In came Billy Wagner in the ninth to the delight of Shea Stadium die-hard  fans and he duly obliged when he made mincemeat of the Eagles flight at the close as they were utterly defeated.  Final score:  Phillies  1  Mets  3
