A wonderful team effort returned a cosy, content and a very rewarding night for the New York Mets at Shea Stadium last night as they became co-leaders with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National League East!
24 July 2008
Philadelphia Eagles   3    New York Mets    6

A felicitous and diplomatic version of his three-run homer in the sixth was delivered by Jose Reyes after the game when he said, in a flight of a pretty good imagination, that he was happy as far as Heaven allowed him to be for having brought joy to Shea Stadium and to himself after his mighty three-run hit last night. Indeed, there was a corridor of uncertainty when Shane Victorino and Geoff Jenkins went over the fence in the second inning; however, John Maine was able to steady the ship and managed to pitch seven innings. Then Shea Stadium held its breath when Billy Wagner came in to provide relief for the Mets on the mound since he was still officially in the recovery list. All fear was put aside as Wagner became a man of stature with miraculous powers of recovery as he retired three straight batters on the trot to make the game safe for the Mets.  Final score  Phillies  3   Mets   6
