Here is a bit more info for you to consider about the recent cold.
There has recently been a paper published in the Journal for Geophysical  Research concerning the anomaly of cold winters and global warming.
The guys concerned have done research on the ice cover in the Barents Kata seas above Finland and Russia, and have concluded that the ice cover has melted there as a result of global warming.  The resulting sea area exposed to the atmosphere is warmer than if it had been covered with ice.  This causes a perturbation in the Troposphere which allows anticyclonic patterns to take over and winds to form which direct polar air from the east over Europe.  This explains why we have had recent cold stuff, as the anticyclonic pressure area causes a high which pushes the normal cyclonic stuff further south.

So cold winters over Europe are completely in sync with global warming.

Interesting isn't it?

I was blaming Iceland.
