Boxers Work Cattle! Pip
12/3/11
Reegan Ray and Pip
I met GEORGE! George and Louise came to support Reegan and Pip at the Ranch Dog trials Washington, USA.
Pip and Reegan Supported an Earl St Patrick's Day...
Meanwhile, back in the UK,short of sheep for practice, Jennifer and Di work a brace on kids...
And Cilla demonstrated a firm lift!
Glebe, Summer 2010
After a diffident start, Cilla working well on circling with stops in the Parrot paddock
Roller in the Round pen working without a line,
with Di armed only with a plastic bag...wonderful!
8/9/10 Busy day for Cilla, working well in the 'Turkey Pen' and Rolly manages a little restraint ... note slack lead and smaller weapon of sheep protection! CHECK THIS OUT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7Dh2Z-0X5Y CONGRATULATIONS REEGAN and PIP! A boxer working in a 'Ranch trial' in California. 3/8/10 We welcomed Reegan Ray from Southern California to play boxers with Di, Cilla and Rolly. It was such fun! Thanks, Reegan for pics of Pip, above, and one below of Cilla! Cilla and Roller,U.K.22/6/10 A more settled Cilla, working quietly. Pen work for Roller is paying off. He is very full on and needs slowing and calming down. Today we saw definite improvements, and he so loves this herding thing! I include this link because it is of great interest to herding boxer fans. It is the case for herding with boxers in the U S A presented by experienced trainers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j6dK18aW_w I don't know what they would have made of 7 year old Morgan, Cilla and Roller's sort of Aunt. She ambled in, turnrd on, turned it up, turned it up some more ... A SERIOUS herding boxer, I a glad she is just a little too old to start, she'd kill me! 22/4/10 Kennel mate Roller also managed his obedience exercises before going in with the sheep. He was trembling with eagerness, and has matured since his last visit into a strong dog with an unstoppable work ethic. This boxer is a serious dog. A photo or two of him working below. How many sheep can hide behind a plastic rake?! 16/10/09
I like this picture because it illustrates the position of dog/handler/sheep that best helps get a good open cast to the front of the sheep.
3rd visit and she has graduated to open field !!! see the utubes when I boss the thingy Which I now have ... http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Mirk4Work#play/uploads/3/tzoDOEIcNws
This is Roller, her 3 year old partner in crime, doing the Instinct Test. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Mirk4Work#play/uploads/0/nAnCwCbRm4w
A big dog and a very nice one, astonishingly natural.
It's her second visit and I was worried (I knew we'd have to let the sheep out of the pen sometime.) I needn't have been! An extraordinary dog ... sleek, muscular, fast: a little lacking in confidence ( fortunately , maybe ) Very biddable; shows "eye" ! something that looks very like "power" ... a relentless stalk right into a wall of sheep...
and a touching reluctance to leave the field, even though the sheep are distant dots ! Or possibly ,worked all day on them and the dam humans let 'em go ... Lovely.
