train & arrived at Paddington at 7 o’clock.

Tuesday, 1 July 1873. Lunched & dined with Mary & Charlie. Went to see my aunts. Arthur Thornewill came in the evening.

Wednesday, 2 July 1873. Went to see Mary all the afternoon & walked with her to meet Charlie. Came home by the underground.

Thursday the 3 July 1873. Went to lunch with Isabella Rougemont & went out driving with her.

Friday, 4 July 1873. Lunched with Mary.

Saturday, 5 July 1873. Lunched with Auntie & went out driving with her & Isabella. We went in the park.

Sunday, 6 July 1873. Went to church morning & evening & to call on Mrs Norman & my aunts in the afternoon.

Monday, 7 July 1873. Lunched with my aunts & went to see Mary also to call on the Miss Rougemont’s.

Tuesday, 8 July 1873. Heard from dear Maggie. Collected in my district. Papa & I dined in Norfolk Square. Mrs Norman & Isabella Robinson also dined there.

Wednesday, 9 July 1873. Went with Mary to Marshall & Snelgrove’s. Papa & I dined at S.Lodge.

Thursday, 10 July 1873. Wrote to dear Maggie. Auntie & Fanny came to see me.

Friday, 11 July 1873. Lunched with Mary. Aunt Emma & aunt Margaret left for Caversham.

Saturday, 12 July 1873. Mrs Norman & cousin Isabella called. I walked to the cemetery.

Sunday, 13 July 1873. Went to church in the morning, very wet afternoon.

Went to the new church in the evening.

Monday, 14 July 1873. Went with Papa to the international exhibition.

Tuesday, 15 July 1873. Lunched with Isabella, we walked to Westbourne Grove in the afternoon, & called on Mrs ??? Rougemont.

Wednesday, 16 July 1873. Lunched with Mary at Mrs Baker’s & dined at the Lodge.

Thursday, 17 July 1873. Lunched in Sussex Square went out driving with Auntie & Fanny. Had tea at bellows. Went in the park afterwards.

Friday, 18 July 1873. Went with Papa to the Royal Academy.

Saturday, 19 July 1873. Lunched in Sussex Square & went with Auntie to the exhibition. Met Fanny & Willie there & we all sat in the horticultural gardens to hear the band. Came home afterwards.

Sunday, 20 July 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After lunch we walked to Norfolk Square.

Monday, 21 July 1873. Lunched with Mary.

Tuesday, 22 July 1873. Lunched with Isabella & went out driving with her & little baby, we went to see Mary. Miss Rougemont called & took me home in her carriage.

Wednesday, 23 July 1873. Went into my district.

Thursday, 24 July 1873. Went to lunch with Auntie & went with her to the Royal Academy. Had tea with Bella. Auntie brought me home.

Friday, 25 July 1873. Lunched with Mary.

Saturday, 26 July 1873. Went to see Miss Rougemont in the afternoon.

Sunday, 27 July 1873. Went to church morning & evening & in the afternoon called

Monday, 28 July 1873. Went into my district, walked over to S.Lodge.

Tuesday, 29 July 1873. Lunched & dined at S.Lodge. Went to see my aunts.

Wednesday, 30 July 1873. Dined in Norfolk Square. Mrs Norman, Isabella Robinson & aunt Margaret were there.

Thursday, 31 July 1873. Lunched with Mary. Mr & Mrs Salmon came to stay with them.

Friday, 1 August 1873. Went to see Miss Rougemont.

Saturday, 2 August 1873. Walked with Papa to Sunderland Terrace.

Sunday, 3 August 1873. My darling Surtees’s birthday. We went to church morning & evening & to the cemetery after lunch.

Monday, 4 August 1873. Lunched & dined at S.Lodge.

Tuesday, 5 August 1873. Lunched in Sussex Square. Went out driving with Auntie & Fanny.

Wednesday, 6 August 1873. Lunched at S.Lodge & dined in Sunderland Terrace. Mr & Mrs Noble also dined there.

Thursday, 7 August 1873. Lunched with my aunts. Came home to dinner.

Friday, 8 August 1873. Isabella Rougemont’s birthday. Mary & Charlie left for Bournemouth. I went to see Miss Rougemont & Mrs child.

Saturday, 9 August 1873. Went into my district. Did not go out again.

Sunday, 10 August 1873. Went to church morning & evening & we walked up to Sunderland Terrace after lunch.

Monday, 11 August 1873. Left Waterloo by the 3.15 train for Bournemouth, arrived there at 7 o’clock. Charlie May[Mary?] & little C. met me at the station. We went on the pier

Tuesday, 12 August 1873. Sat on the beach all the morning. After dinner we walked to Boscombe spa & home by the Sands, Mary went in a donkey chaise. Heard from Maggie.

Wednesday, 13 August 1873. Sat on the beach & on the pier in the afternoon.

Thursday, 14 August 1873. Sat on the beach.

Friday, 15 August 1873. Drove to Christ church.

Saturday, 16 August 1873. Went out fishing in a boat.

Sunday, 17 August 1873. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 18 August 1873. Sat on the pier morning & afternoon stayed in as it rained.

Tuesday, 19 August 1873. Agnes Noble married to Major Campbell. We sat on the pier & worked.

Wednesday, 20 August 1873. Sat out all the morning.

Thursday, 21 August 1873. Regatta Day, we saw the racing very well from the pier. In the evening we sat out to see the fireworks.

Friday, 22 August 1873. I based with the children. In the afternoon we drove to Wimborne Minster & came home by Poole.

Saturday, 23 August 1873. Sat on the pier.

Sunday, 24 August 1873. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 25 August 1873. Fished on the pier.

Tuesday, 26 August 1873. Sat out all the morning[?].

Wednesday, 27 August 1873. Sat on the pier with Mary & worked. Took a walk with the children before breakfast.

Thursday, 28 August 1873. Went on the pier.

Friday, 29 August 1873. Sat out & worked.

Saturday, 30 August 1873. Sat on the pier.

Sunday, 31 August 1873. Went to church at St Peter’s. Charlie & I walked to St Clements at Boscombe after

dinner. In the evening we went to St Peter’s.

Monday, 1 September 1873. Five years today since my darling brother died. After dinner we went to see the cornerstone of the”[??] House” laid by the rural Dean.

Tuesday, 2 September 1873. Went to see the funeral of the little boy who was drowned. He was buried in St Peter’s churchyard & choristers sang the hymn “Oh Paradise” as he was born to his grave. We set out all the afternoon.

Wednesday, 3 September 1873. I went to church. Sat on the pier all the morning.

Thursday, 4 September 1873. Walked with May to the wood before breakfast to get some heather. We set out all the morning & afternoon.

Friday, 5 September 1873. Went on the pier. Left by the 1.15 train for London. Arrived at Waterloo at 6.15. Reached home about 7.30.

Saturday, 6 September 1873. Went with Mary into Westbourne Grove.

Sunday, 7 September 1873. Went to church in the morning with Ethel to St Michael’s. Arthur Thornewill & Mrs Philpott called in the afternoon, we could not get to church in the evening as it rained.

Monday, 8 September 1873. Went to see Miss Arnold.

Tuesday, 9 September 1873. Went to see Mrs Arnold.

Wednesday, 10 September 1873. Mary & I went out shopping.

Thursday, 11 September 1873. Charlie’s birthday. Mrs Arnold came to see us. Mary, Charlie & I went out shopping. R.T.came up.

Friday, 19 September 1873. I walked over to Kensington. My aunts came home from Worthing.

Saturday, 13 September 1873. Went out with R.T.

Papa came & we went home in a cab.

Sunday, 14 September 1873. My birthday. Went to Christchurch in the morning. Walked over to Norfolk Square & we dined in Sunderland Lodge. Arthur came to dinner. Went to St Stephen’s.

Monday, 15 September 1873. Went to Northumberland house. R.G.left at 4 o’clock.

Tuesday, 16 September 1873. Lunched & dined in Norfolk Square. Went out shopping with aunt Georgiana.

Wednesday, 17 September 1873. Went to Marshall & Snelgrove’s with Papa.

Thursday, 18 September 1873. Lunched with Mary. Papa came & we walked home together.

Friday, 19 September 1873. Lunched with Bella. Alice Rougemont drove her to Roland gardens. I saw Emma Noble & cousin Charles on their way to Scotland.

Saturday, 20 September 1873. We walked over to see Mary Ann Charlie.

Sunday, 21 September 1873. Went to church morning & evening & to S.Lodge in the afternoon.

Monday, 22 September 1873. Lunched with Bella & went out driving with her, we went to see Mary.

Tuesday, 28 September 1873 lunched in Sunderland Terrace. Mary was confined this morning of a little boy, which only lived a few hours. It was baptised & called “Surtees Robert”. We dined with the aunts, Charlie also dined with them.

Wednesday, 24 September 1873. Charlie came for me & we went together to Brompton Cemetery. I went to see Mary & Popper & I dined in Norfolk Square.

Thursday, 25 September 1873. Charlie & I went to the little baby’s funeral. I lunched with Mrs Arnold & went out shopping with her afterwards.

Friday, 26 September 1873. I lunched with Bella. We went out driving together afterwards. I bought my wedding dress.

Saturday, 27 September 1873. I went with Papa to Piccadilly & bought my sealskin jacket, then went up to S.Lodge.

Sunday, 28 September 1873. Went to church morning & evening & to Sunderland Terrace in the afternoon.

Monday, 29 September 1873. Lunched in S.Terrace & went to see Mary afterwards.

Tuesday, 30 September 1873. Lunched with Isabella & went out driving with her afterwards.
