Tuesday 1st October
Mrs Mitchell, Manny[?] & Arthur came over to lunch. Played at croquet. Auntie, Nelly, Fanny & I took a short walk.
Wednesday 2nd October
Heard from dear old Lindsey. Wrote to Isabella. Auntie, Maggie & I went in the carriage, we went to Ashcombe.
Tuesday 3rd October
Uncle & Maggie Road over to Brighton. Auntie, Nelly, Emma & I drove over. Emma, Owen[?] & I went on the Esplanade until Auntie had paid her visit. We met the Mitchells, Polly & Isabella.
Tuesday 4th October
Mary & Alice Woodward came & we played at croquet, then walked part of the way back with them. Walked down to Woolards in the morning with Maggie.
Saturday 5th October
Oh! Jolly jolly jolly jolly day !!!!! Mrs Mitchell, Fanny, Laura, Manny, Willie, Clayton, Georgie, Adelaide, Arthur, Polly & Isabella came over from Brighton for the day. Polly & Isabella stayed. Played at croquet & walked on the Downs in the afternoon. Mary, Georgie, Adelaide, Arthur, Margaret, Isabella & I drank tea. We played at bagatelle in the evening. The Mitchells left at 8.30. So very sorry the day was all over.
Sunday 5th October

Monday 7th October
Took a short walk with Polly. After lunch took a walk with Jesse, Emma & Fanny.
Tuesday 8th October
Auntie, Nelly, John, Emma & Maggie went to Brighton. Had a game at croquet.
Wednesday 9th October
Clayton’s letters to Uncle came. Polly, Maggie & I went & sat on the Downs, Maggie saw Clayton. We just missed him.
Thursday 10th October
Maggie & I took a book & read on the Downs. Had a very nice afternoon, we met Polly, Uncle & Isabella coming home from their ride. Agnes & little Agnes arrived.
Tuesday 11th October
Took a walk on the Lewes Road. Charlie arrived in the evening. We read out loud in the afternoon “Wind Against Tide”.
Saturday 12th October
Had a game at croquet. Charlie & I went over to Brighton. John & Mr Gill went in the train with us. We lunched at the James Daniels, Aurora walked with Charlie & me purposeful terrors. Saw all the Mitchells. Uncle & Isabella had ridden over. I went upstairs & saw were Clayton & Georgie, Manny & Adelaide. Had a long talk with the former. We then walked to the chain peer & Clayton & Adelaide went to the Station with us. Edward came down from London.
Sunday 13th October
Went to church morning & afternoon. Auntie, Uncle, John, Agnes, Charlie, Isabella & I took a walk on the Downs.
Monday 14th October
Wrote to Adelaide. Began a letter to Tina. Arthur left & Nelly left the Gills.

Walked before breakfast with Edward & Charlie to the Station. Edward Drury, Mrs & Capt Dellafosse came over from Brighton, played at croquet. Took a walk on the Lewes Road.
Tuesday 15th October
Heard from Charlie & Adelaide. Auntie, Uncle, Agnes, Fanny & Emma went over to Brighton. Wrote to cousin Matilda. We walked to the Woodward’s & drove home in the Pony Chaise. Played at croquet.
Wednesday 16th October
Walked up to the old church with Agnes, Polly, Isabella & Maggie.
Thursday 17th October
Uncle, Polly & Maggie went over to Brighton & lunched at the J. Daniels. They met the Mitchells & went on the Chain Pier.
Friday 18th October
Agnes, Isabella & Maggie went to Lewes, Polly & I walked on the Downs. Auntie, Polly, Uncle & Isabella dined at the Sheffreeses[?]. Edward came down, heard of Clayton’s appointment to the Excellent. Wrote to Lindsey.
Saturday 19th October
On the Downs with Polly, Isabella & Maggie. Aurora & Mrs Spencer came over from Brighton for the day. Clayton Mitchell also came over. Mary & Alice Woodward came over in the afternoon & we had a game at croquet. Polly, Uncle & I walked with Clayton part of the way to the Station.
Sunday 20th October
Went to church morning & afternoon. Took a walk on the Downs in the afternoon.
Monday 21st October
Isabella, Maggie & I walked to the Station.

With Uncle & Edward before breakfast. Nelly, Mrs Willes[?] & Arthur Mitchell rode over to lunch, we all had a game at croquet & then showed them the way through Combe.
Tuesday 22nd October
Auntie, Agnes & little Agnes went to London. Isabella, Maggie & I went to the Station with them. A wet day. Wrote to Jenny.
Wednesday 23rd October
Laury, Isabella, Jesse, Emma & I went in the carriage to Lewis. Had a game at croquet.
Thursday 24th October
Isabella & I walked to Ash:, we met Clayton, Georgie & Arthur also Mr and Mrs Shiffren, Polly & Maggie. Drove to Lewis. Wrote to Papa. Read out loud in the evening.
Friday 25th October
Stayed at home all morning. Isabella and I drove on the Brighton Road & went to Lewis. Auntie & Uncle arrived from London in the evening. Willie also came from Blackheath.
Saturday 26 October
Walked down to the rectory with Auntie & Maggie. Clayton went to Portsmouth. In the morning Uncle, Isabella & Polly met him out riding & said goodbye. Went in the carriage to the Station to meet Stanley & Gertrude. Played at croquet.
Sunday 27th October
Went to church morning & afternoon. Took a walk in the morning round by Handsey Common.
Monday 28th October
Walked to Lewis in the morning. In the afternoon played at croquet took a walk with Stanley. Willie went back to Blackheath.
Tuesday 29th October
Walked to Plumpton

Wednesday 30th October
Willie’s birthday, 12 years old. Walked to Lewis with Uncle, Anthony & Isabella. Croquet in the afternoon. Wrote to Charlie. Mr and Mrs Schiffren & Mr & Mrs & Miss Scladen dined here.
Thursday 31st October
??? Aunt Harriet, Stanley, Polly & Isabella went over to Brighton. Before they went Isabella, Margaret, Stanley & I had again at croquet. Went into the village with Maggie.
