[Needs prettifying]

 

Monday 1st April

Dear Maggie’s birthday. I wrote to her. Wet day, did not go out.

 

Tuesday 2nd April

 Mary came over & stayed till nearly 4 o/c.  we practised & I went  to see the ”Victoria Road Theatre”; also went to the Browns & gave them some????.  In the evening we went to the theatricals, saw “Romance under Difficulties, a most unwarrantable intrusion[?]” and “The Ugly Customer”, it all went off so well, Mr Haffenden walked home with us.

 

Wednesday 3rd April

Went to Gloucester Square, in the afternoon we went out driving. Saw Georgie & the little baby for the first time, we got home about 6 o/c. Jane spent the evening  with us,  Papa dined in Norfolk Square.

 

Thursday 4th April

In the morning we walked to Hammersmith then we went to the Kingdon’s. After lunch went out with Jane and did not come  home till nearly 5 o/c.  in the

evening went to the private theatricals, saw “Two in the Morning” “Sent to the Tower” “Most Unwarrantable Intrusion”” & “The Ugly Customer”.  After it was all over we went to the moors to suffer and had a little dancing afterwards. We got home about 1.30.

 

Friday 5th April

In the morning went out & in the afternoon went with Jane to see Mr Ansdell’s pictures for the Royal Academy. Isabella spent the day at Mrs Kingdon’s. Surtees was also out.

 

Saturday 6th April

Papa at home, in the afternoon walked toHarsey’s to get some hair carpet & blinds.

 

Sunday 7th April

Surtees to the old church in the morning, Mr Wright preached; in the afternoon took a walk in the gardens. In the evening went to Christchurch.

 

 Monday 8th April

Walked with Papa two Millbank. I spent the day there. Aunt Harriet & Gertrude also Auntie Polly & Margaret called in the afternoon, we sat with Georgie all the evening & Richard walked home with me at 9.30, we reached home at 10.30. Heard that Mary & Miss Wall had called.

 

Tuesday 9th April

Stayed at home all the morning. In the afternoon Jane & Miss Bartram called, the latter to ask us to go there on the 17th. Isabella

& I called on Mrs Brown, Mrs Harris, Mrs L Harris, Mrs Turner, Mrs Moore, Mrs ???, & Miss Brown.  Surtees spent the evening at Mrs Chapman’s. Heard from Miss Appleby in the morning.

 

Wednesday 10th April

Went to St Philip’s Church. Wrote to Miss Appleby. In the afternoon walked with Jane to the Grove.

 

Thursday 11th April

Heard from Margaret & Emily Warre.  Went into the town in the morning. Walked with Jane in the afternoon, met Mary & Mary wall, we sat in the gardens for some time.

 

Friday 12th April

Harry’s birthday. We took a short walk in the morning. Wrote to Emily Warre.  Isabella went to see the Hayes, & I took a walk by myself.

 

Saturday 13th April

In the afternoon we took a walk round the gardens withPapa.  Heard from Emma Noble & Eleanor Warre.

 

Sunday 14th April

Princess Beatrice’s birthday. In the morning Surtees & I wentto the old church, Mr Brooke red prayers & Mr Wright preached. In the afternoon Papa Isabella & I walked up to Sunderland Terrace. Grant Emma & aunt Margaret were at home. Charlie, Mary & Mary Wall called whilst we were there. In the evening we all went to Christchurch, Mr Wright did the whole service. Walked up Victoria Road with Jane & her brother after church.

Monday 15th April

After breakfast, wrote to Emma & Agnes Noble. In the afternoon walked over to see Miss Jenkins & found her at home. She walked part of the way back with me.  Mrs and Miss Harris called.

 

Tuesday 16th April

In the morning went in the town & in the afternoon took a walk with Jane, we went to the Grove.

 

Wednesday 17th April

Went for a short walk in the morning. In the afternoon we walked with chain to the Grove.

 

Thursday 18th April

In the morning went into the town & to see Jane. In the afternoon took a walk by myself. I wrote to Alice.

 

Friday 19th April

Surtees was confirmed at the old church, St Mary Abbots, Kensington by the Bishop of London. We went to see the confirmation, the Bishop gave a beautiful charge. We got home a little before 2. Afterwards we took a short walk with Jane in the evening I went to St Barnabas, Dr Hessy preached.

 

Saturday 20th April

Stayed at home all the morning. In the afternoon walked with Papa to Harry’s, met Edward riding in Rotten Row.

 

Sunday 21st April

In the morning went to Christchurch, Mr Wright preached. After lunch walked up to Norfolk Square, saw aunt Georgiana. In the evening went to Christchurch.

 

Monday 22nd April

Went for a short walk in the morning & in the afternoon

took a walk by myself, met Margaret Brown.

 

Tuesday 23rd April

We took a walk with Jane & Miss Bartram in the afternoon.

 

Wednesday 24th April

We went to lunch in Norfolk Square & in the evening we went to the Bartram’s to drink tea, had some conjuring & dancing afterwards, got home about 1 o/c.

 

Thursday 25th April

 

Stayed at home all the morning, in the afternoon went into the town & in the evening we had a small party, namely Miss Bartram, Miss Lynette{?}, Jane, Mr Moore, Alice kingdom, Mr Chapman, Mr Wynter, 2 Morrisons[?].  They left a little before 1 o/c.

 

Friday 26th April

In the morning wewhen tinted the town and in the afternoon I walked over to the Grove to get my photographs.

 

Saturday 27th April

Wet days so I could not go to Millbank. I wrote to Georgie. Went to the Rosh[?] & to Derrys in the afternoon.

 

Sunday 28th April

In the morning went to Christchurch & Mr Brooke preached. In the afternoon walked up to York Street to see Aunt Matilda & Amy Noble met uncleTrewy[?] & Harry there.  In the evening went by myself to St Philips, Earls Court. Mr Brown preached.

 

Monday 29th April

In the morning packed up my things. Went into the town with Isabella. Directly after lunch started for Millbank, arrived there soon after 2 o/c.

Mrs Gibson & Willy came to drink tea, played in the evening. Began my anti-Macassar.

 

Tuesday 30th April

In the morning put baby to sleep took dear little Dynely[?] for a short walk. In the afternoon took a walk with the children. Baby went out for the first time. In the evening we dined in Gloucester Square then carriage came to fetch us.
