Creag an Amalaidh. 7th October 2012.

We parked the cars at the Mound, walked south for a short distance before turning right up the single track road which takes you to the small community of Little Torboll. This overlooks Strath Fleet and The Alders. It is very beautiful and tranquill here, a place you never know exists as you are pounding down the A9 for Inverness and a days shopping.

I was keen to find a waterful which was shown on the one scrap of map we had. We eventually heard and saw it through the trees, but could not figure how to get to it as it was in a steep gorge on the other side of the river with a possible path to it which looked a bit dodgey. I could see that the rest of the group were keen to climb Creag an Amalaidh so we set off for that. We soon reached the top as it is only a small hill of 850 ft, but we were rewarded with spectacular views over the Dornoch Firth. It was blowing a gale on the top making it difficult to hold my camera steady. All my photos suffered camera shake so were a bit blurred.

We came down from the hill on the south-west side to avoid the sheer cliffs to the east, and picked up the track to Cambusmore lodge passing a lonely memorial to Frederick William Wignall on the way. We eventually came out on the main A9 and walked back to the cars.
