Badryrie 04/11/2012

The temperature had dropped 7 degrees to -1 degree centigrade from the time we left Wick to reaching Loch Stemster. First we had a look at the standing stones and chambered cairn at the start of the walk before heading for Badryrie. The track to the village was in a bad way. It has been badly churned up by some heavy vehicle carrying in loads of fencing material. We finally reached Badryrie after picking our way through some seriously boggy ground. It is quite amazing that the residents of Badryrie were able to to survive in such arduous conditions. We were a bit nervous of what the ground conditions would be to Munsary Cottage but they were a lot better than the walk in to Badryrie. We stopped for our lunch there before the walk back home. On the way back we had a look at the small graveyard just past the farm at Ballachly. There is an interesting inscription on a stone which is lying flat on the ground. It reads " This grave never to be opened " Someone came up with the suggestion it might have been something to do with the plague. There was no name on the grave stone. We continued back along the track until we finally reached our starting point.
