Maiden Pap. 4th March 2012.

It was the biggest turn out I have seen for a Waybaggers walk in a long time. Seventeen people arrived to do the walk. We set off from Braemore at the bridge and headed up past the small cluster of buildings which make up the estate. We reached the 'Beware of the Bull' sign and passed through the small tree plantation before reaching the open moorland. We continued along the track for a while before heading off on to the moor to start climbing Maiden Pap. It is not a high hill (1587 feet) but it is reasonably steep. The best way is to go round the right shoulder and approach it from the back. My son in law Ewen wanted to go the direct route up through some rock and scree. I went with him and was soon gasping for breath. I thought I was going to make friends with my breakfast!

We reached the top and had some food before heading back down for Corichoich bothy. We had another break before crossing the swing bridge beside the bothy and heading back down Berriedale Water back to Braemore.

We were really fortunate with the weather. It had been dry and sunny all of the day but just as we were packing up to go home from Braemore the sky darkened and there was a shower of sleet.
