we are talking big flies here from 7 inch's upwards to 10 , 12 and above inch's we can now days achieve this due to there being a massive range of cheap but very good synthetic fibre out there to work with and the fact that this stuff sheds water on the cast means the days of throwing wet socks around is well and truly over give em something to chew on
