Lesley Burr

My work is greatly influenced by the landscape in which I live and is based on specific themes often influenced by a particular place or experience. I am interested in creating images that reflect the ever changing qualities of the cycles of nature, symbolising the rich and varied aspects of human experience.

Recent paintings are inspired by water and plants taken from a variety of sources - looking closely at both real and imaginative experiences, exploring  a range of ideas on an environmental theme that suggest fragility, harmony and faith.

My chosen mediums are oil, mixed media and pastels on paper.

Winner of several awards including Hi -Arts Visual Artists Development Grant 2008 and 2002, Ruth Davidson Memorial Scholarship 1997, National Winner 1992, Runner-Up and Scottish Prize 1993 of John Laing Landscape Competition. I have exhibited widely in the UK, with paintings held in private and public collections and am listed in the 2008 Who’s Who in Art. I am currently preparing for an exhibition “Painting Venice” at Vaila Fine Art, Shetland and a planned short research trip exploring the coastscape of Shetland.
