How to Support Your Teen
Supporting your teen...
- DON’T PUSH TOO HARD – The harder you push your teen to do something, the more likely they are to do the opposite. Especially if your teen has a mental health condition, if you push them too hard when they aren’t ready they will push away from you.
- BE PATIENT - They may not be the children you know and love, but who's teenager is?! Be patient and supportive and they will get there eventually.
- LISTEN - There is nothing more important than listening to your teenager if they want to talk, even if its about something insignificant or silly, they might open up to you once you've made the time for them.
- MAKE THE TIME - If you can find some area of common interest with your teenager then make time to spend with them. Even if it's just going for a coffee in a nice cafe every once in a while, they will appreciate that you are taking time out of your schedule to check in with them and it's also a great oppurtunity to have those conversations that can lead to them opening up to you.
