STIGMA

The dictionary defines "stigma" as a mark of disgrace or infamy; a stain or reproach, as on one's reputation. Mental health issues are often referred to as the last remaining stigma in this country. This has to change. An illness of the mind deserves as much understanding as an illness of any other body part. Throughout history mental health conditions have been misunderstood despite some of the greatest people in history having been sufferers. In this section we explore the misconceptions people have about mental illness and the fact that you are "in good company" as a sufferer as we show you how many celebrities and famous figures have previously or currently suffer from mental ill health.
