The Rosemarkie Project, launched at the Group’s AGM in 2019, has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Shielding and self-isolation has put paid to both fieldwork and research at the Highland Archives and a planned visit to Edinburgh to collect information from the Inland Revenue Survey of 1911.
Archives, Libraries, Universities and Family History Organisations, however, have taken the opportunity to digitise increasingly large amounts of material that has meant that members of the Group have been able to carry out a limited amount of research. Chris Rendell has been looking at the salmon fishermen along the ‘Rosemarkie Shore’ using the Census and Parish Records on Find My Past and Dave Rendell has been transcribing the Fortrose and Rosemarkie Trade Directories from The National Library of Scotland and The Internet Archive websites.
Details of both strands are now on the Group’s website.
