Estates in Wales and Enclosures Acts

We were hoping to work with the Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates on this, to provide an insight into the role of the estates and the implications for ordinary hill farming families of the Enclosures Acts.

In researching this we wanted to find out if the landed gentry were involved in boosting wool production and what were the implications of raising rents, tythes and taxes.

We understand that the estates would have built the fulling mills / pandys needed by local weavers and rented them out to families with knowledge and skills in fulling. These pandys are seen on the sales records of estates, alongside farms and houses.
