BURMA

Mt Popa is a volcanic extrusion of stiff lava which was squeezed from the crater into a standing wide pillar of rock. Now a Buddhist holy site, it has the auspicious number of 777 steps riding to the temple at its peak. The overgrown sides lead to a rocky summit. (Pen and Wash)

A curio shop near the bottom of the staps displays its wonderful wares. (Mixed Media)

A fascinating boat trip along a canal brought us to Inle Lake. Here, boatmen stand on one leg to row, plunging their oar into the water with both hands and using their other leg to power the oar. This painting by my wife, Jane, shows fishermen with their bamboo fish trap.
